Gerard R. Morin. M.A., joined the faculty of the Department of History and Government at Northern Essex Community College in the fall of 1968. He received his B.A. degree in History from Merrimack College in 1964, his M. A. degree in Asian History from the University of New Hampshire in 1967, and completed several years of graduate study and research toward his doctoral degree in East Asian History at the University of Iowa.
Professor Morin has taught courses in World History and Western Civilization, in several areas of political science, and in the history and culture of China and Japan at Northern Essex. He has also offered courses in Asian history at Bradford College and Keene State College and delivered several presentations focusing on contemporary China and Japan to the Life-Long Learning program at Northern Essex and community groups in the college’s service area.
While on leave of absence from Northern Essex from 1987 through 1989, he served as a Visiting Lecturer in Asian Studies with the University of Maryland – Asian Division in Tokyo, Japan.  In addition to offering several classroom-based courses in the Tokyo vicinity, he also led study tours to mainland China and Taiwan and participated in a faculty exchange in which he taught American English and culture at Northwestern University in Xi’an, China shortly after the Tiananmen Square tragedy in the summer of 1989.
For the past twelve years – during July and August – he has taught English and coordinated the Computer Activities Program for Japanese children at the American School in Japan in Tokyo, Japan.
