Jia Yu, PhD was a Lecturer of Economics in the School of Social Sciences at the Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. She served as a consultant at Wason Center for Public Policy and a committee member for the Greater Hampton Road Community Indicators Dashboard (GHR Connect) Advisory Committee at United Way of South Hampton Roads. She is now an Assistant Professor at Southern Connecticut State University in the Department of Economics and Finance, School of Business.
Dr. Yu grew up in Tianjin, China and completed her undergraduate studies at the Tianjin University of Finance and Economics. After earning her Bacherlor's degree in Business, she came to the United States to pursue her graduate studies. She earned her MA in Economics from SUNY at Albany and her PhD in Economics from Suffolk University in Boston, MA.
Dr. Yu is an innovative teacher and published author with a passion and devotion to higher education and learning. Her research interests are in the areas of health, social, and family economics. She has published research in several social science Journals. Yu has presented her research at several regional, national and international conferences. She has won academic awards and served as chair and discussant at many conferences.
Dr. Yu has been invited for media interviews and more. She has been recognized for her research with Dr. Quentin Kidd on the cost and preparation of retiring Virginians in the next 15 years. The initial nterview was published as a cover story in the Virginia Business Magazine, April 2017 issue.
Dr. Yu has many years of face-to-face teaching and mentoring experiences with students.
